Disney Plus recently announced that Star, a new add-on to Disney Plus is set to hit our streaming devices later next month on 23rd February. With this comes a price increase on both monthly and annual subscriptions:
UK: £7.99 per month / £79.99 for a full year subscription
US: $7.99 per month / $79.99 for a full year subscription
CA: $11.99 per month / $119.99 for a full year subscription
AU: $11.99 per month / $119.99 for a full year subscription
Thankfully, existing Disney Plus subscribers in the UK will get to keep their current price of £5.99 per month until the 23rd August 2021. It’s understood that the UK is the only region with this staggered approach to the price increase – perhaps because of the delay we faced initially with Disney Plus coming to the UK?

What is Star?
Star will appear within the Disney Plus app and will sit side by side all the major titles on the home screen. It looks like Star will offer a more adult-oriented collection of TV shows and movies as well as original productions, reaffirmed by the new feature of PIN-protected profiles and parental controls.
The company have stated that Star will become “home to thousands of hours of television and movies from Disney’s creative studios, including Disney Television Studios, FX, 20th Century Studios, 20th Television”. Whilst Disney did not delve too far into the specifics, one could imagine franchises such as Die Hard and Alien being available to watch as early as next month.
