Top Gun Maverick Tom Cruise Official Trailer 2022

From superhero sequels to the latest Martin Scorsese masterpiece, 2022 looks set to be a truly awesome year for movies. I’ve picked out 10 movies which you simply cannot miss!

We’ve seen some very average video game inspired movies over the years (think Assassin’s Creed and Hitman: Agent 47), but with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg leading the line for Uncharted, expectations are understandably very high! The Uncharted series of games have been an unprecedented hit and have been pivotal to the success of PlayStation over the past decade and I’m looking forward to seeing how the game series translates to the big screen.

Death on the Nile

Based on the 1937 Agatha Christie novel of the same name, Death on the Nile is a follow up to the brilliant 2017 film, Murder on the Orient Express. Following the death of one of the passengers on the S.S. Karnak, renowned detective Hercule Poirot is tasked with identifying which one of the passengers is the killer. The film boasts an all-star cast with Kenneth Branagh, Russell Brand, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer and Letitia Wright all featuring.

The Batman

We’ve seen various incarnations of the Caped Crusader over the years, but 2022 sees Robert Pattinson make his debut as the infamous superhero. With an all-star cast featuring the likes of Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright and Colin Farrell, as well as sequels and spin-off television series also in the pipeline, The Batman is one my most anticipated films of the year.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

I’ve been a little disappointed with the Fantastic Beasts series to date, but nevertheless, I’m super excited for The Secrets of Dumbledore! Set several years after the events of The Crimes of Grindelwald, the film follows Newt and his allies as they clash with Grindelwald’s army. The film is set in the 1930s and leads up to the Wizarding World’s involvement in World War II – something which I am totally intrigued by!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

After the recent success of Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, all eyes are now looking at Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in what undoubtedly will be Marvel’s biggest movie of the year. Expectations are high for this one and I have a feeling Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could just propel the MCU into a whole new dimension!

Top Gun: Maverick

The long-anticipated sequel to the 1986 hit movie looks like its finally getting its release later this year, nearly 3 years after it was originally planned! Interestingly enough, the film was initially postponed to “allow the production to work out all the complex flight sequences”, before then being delayed due to the pandemic. Fingers crossed this means it lives up to the original!

Jurassic World Dominion

Set four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World Dominion follows humans around the world as they deal with a host of invasive dinosaur species. With Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum reprising their roles from the original Jurassic Park trilogy, I have high hopes for Jurassic World Dominion!

Lightyear follows the fictional origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the character who inspired the action figure in the Toy Story series of films. Chris Evans is set to voice the character and it’s fair to say excitement for Lightyear is high – the teaser trailer released back in October received 83 million views in its first 24 hours!

Avatar 2

Nearly 13 years after the release of the highest grossing film of all time, Avatar looks finally set to receive its sequel. Details of the sequel are fairly unknown at this time, all we really know is that the story will continue shortly after where the first movie left off. Avatar 2 has certainly been a long time coming and time will tell if we actually see it release in 2022, but if it does, it’s sure to be one of the biggest films of the year.

Killers of the Flower Moon

An Apple TV+ exclusive, Killers of the Flower Moon is a Western crime drama film, directed and produced by Martin Scorsese. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jesse Plemons, Robert De Niro and Brendan Fraser, and marks the sixth collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio as well as the tenth collaboration between Scorsese and De Niro. If Martin Scorsese is directing it, chances are it’s gonna be a hit!
